Freddie Mercury’s Georgian-Style London Home Lists for $38 Million
The home still retains many details that were hand-picked by the late rock legend
Freddie Mercury was nominated for four Grammys.
Freddie Mercury's neo-Georgian London residence, known as Garden Lodge, is up for sale for the first time since he purchased it in 1980. Following Mercury's death in 1991, Mary Austin, his friend and former fiancée, inherited the eight-bedroom property in Kensington. Now, after over three decades, Austin is selling the house through Knight Frank for $38 million (£30 million). Many original features remain, including the saffron yellow dining room and the mirrored doors in the primary suite that once held Mercury's stage costumes. The property also features a double-height drawing room, Mercury's grand piano, and his cherished Japanese-style garden.
Fans gathered outside the Kensington home of the late Freddie Mercury to pay respects and leave flowers in memoriam.
This residence holds cherished memories as a glorious memory box, filled with love and warmth in every room,” Austin shared with Mansion Global. “Living here has been a joyful experience, with countless wonderful memories. Now, in its emptiness, I am transported back to the initial viewing. Last year, I auctioned off $50.4 million worth of Mercury's possessions, inherited alongside the house.
